About the project

Our project stems from two lacks in our schools and education systems, curiosity and equal importance to all lessons.
According to the European Education Area, pathways to school success, school systems must ensure that all learners have
a chance to fulfill their potential because human beings are naturally diverse and different so a proper education should give
equal importance to math, science, physical education, art, and humanities. But according to interviews we had in our
organizations and academic studies, classes such as art and literature are not given sufficient interest and importance by
school administrations, parents, and teachers. But these lessons are crucial for students and necessary for a well-rounded
education because they can challenge different points of view and give students the opportunity to reflect on the human
condition.
According to the study made by Freeman,2014, curiosity-driven learning and peculiar motivation have been argued to be
fundamental ingredients for efficient education. Also, curiosity is a form of intrinsic motivation that is key to fostering active
learning and spontaneous exploration. But it is difficult to say that curiosity has one of the leading roles in our education
systems and curriculums.
And in order to create an opportunity for students who are talented in art but can't find enough chances to prove themselves
and fulfill their potential, and also to improve the role of curiosity in our education systems, we want to lead our students to
make searches for the most important events which can be regarded as milestones and how they affected our society,
environment, and lifestyles and how they were reflected in art, literature, and poetry. So that, working on history, our
participants will be able to understand how events in the past made things the way we are today, learn more about
ourselves, and develop the ability to avoid mistakes and create better paths for our societies. Also, students with artistic
skills will be more active and more encouraged to join lessons.
We have divided our project activities into 2 different parts. In the first part, our students will focus on the important events
and how they affected their cities so that they can learn about their cities better. And in the second part, they will study how
these events affected the whole of Europe in order to develop their holistic and local assessment skills. Also, the activities
planned for the cities can be regarded as complementary to the Erasmus project "Discover My City" during which our
Croatian and German partners aimed to make their cities' features more known to students and exploit cities' potential.
Also, we believe that our activities will lead our students to use social media and digital tools in a more productive way and
develop their fundamental skills like collaboration, communication, and working as a team which is the most important
needs of their time.
